March 5 (Thursday) AT South from Blackrock Gap

  • 05 Mar 2020

Contact is Art Ritter (o2behiking@yahoo.com).  I've not been able to hike in the Mountains since November (nice bear sighting at that time), so I am viewing this hike as a moderately paced leg-stretcher on the Appalachian Trail in the Southern District of Shenandoah NP.  In fact, it contains the only two sections of the AT in the park that I have not yet hiked.  We will have two options, depending on how many show up.  If we have more than one car, we will hike from Blackrock Gap to Turk Gap (about 8 miles and 1,000 feet of elevation gain and loss.  A car shuttle is required to not make this a 16 miler.  If we only have one car, we'll hike from Blackrock Rap to the Chimney Rocks viewpoint, then retrace our steps.  So this would be about 7 miles and 700 feet of elevation gain and loss.  Let me know if you are interested.  I doubt it will fill up, but I am limiting the hike to 12 people.  Departure time will be 8:30.  Contact me for meet-up specifics.
