February 17 (Monday) False Cape State Park Trip - Hike (D/4)

  • 17 Feb 2020

Theresa Duffey (taduffey2054@comcast.net or 550-0955)  Join club members on a winter adventure to False Cape State Park. Trip begins with a ride down the beach to the park visitor center on the terra-gator (see web link below). Then spend 2.5-3 hours exploring the beach or hiking through the park. False Cape is known for its remoteness. This time of year there won’t be as many biting bugs or snakes! Explore the various maritime ecosystems, interdunal swales and ponds, wander the beach, birdwatch, and hike through the live oak forest.  Arrival time at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge will be 10:30am to board the terra-gator, returning to refuge around 2:30pm. Departure time from Richmond will be around 7:45am. Cost to ride the terra-gator will be $8-$10 depending on number of participants. Plan for any kind of weather and wind, and walking in sand. Bring water, lunch and snacks. Trip will be limited to 20. For more details and to register, contact Theresa.
