Jun 26 (Wed) Early Hike - Pocahontas State Park - Chesterfield (D/3)
Jeff Samuels (jefflsamuels@yahoo.com or 536-2671 cell). On this approximately 4.8 mile shaded hike we will pause a few times to see what if any action is taking place at or near a heron rookery. On June 20 I observed a mature bald eagle swoop in low above the lake and land on the shoreline near those nests. Bring binoculars as the rookery is way across the lake from the trails (Co-op and Troopers Tribute Loop). Our route will take us near the shoreline to catch any breeze. No convenient bailout options so be prepared to complete the entire hike. Bring water. Restrooms at start, none during hike. Park entrance is on Beach Road (Rt. 655) 4 miles west of Rt. 10 (Ironbridge Rd). Parking fee without park pass. Meet in the big parking lot near the pool/picnic area at 8AM.
