Jeff Samuels (jefflsamuels@yahoo.com or 536-2671 cell).

New Trails Hike.Join Jeff as he leads one of the park’s First Day Hikes, a 4 mile journey through the new hiking zone north of Swift Creek Lake. Be among the first to see an area that was recently set aside for hiking-only trail development. Experience stunning lake views from hilltop overlooks and near the shoreline. Several short armored stream crossings. No convenient bailout options so be prepared to complete the entire hike. Restrooms at start, none during hike. Adults only (18 years and older), no children, no pets. No need to contact Jeff unless you have questions.

Park entrance is on Beach Road (Rt. 655) 4 miles west of Rt. 10 (Ironbridge Rd). Parking fees waived. Meet at Shelter 2 which is just beyond the far end of the big pool/picnic area parking lot (it overlooks the boat ramp and bridge). Meet at 8:45 AM. Hike is scheduled to end not later than 11:45 AM.

After the hike please do consider attending the ribbon cutting ceremony to show your support for hiking-only trail development at Pocahontas State Park.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

At 11:45 AM begin assembling in the open space in front of the trail head (just across the boat ramp bridge). That trailhead is the gateway to the new hiking-only trail system.

Ceremony starts at noon, ends at 12:30 PM. Additional details pending.

Show your support for ongoing and future hiking-only trail projects at Pocahontas State Park by attending this event. Following the ceremony guests will have an opportunity to take a very nice hike along the lake on these new trails.
