Nov14 (Wed) THIS TRAIN’S GOIN’ TO DC (C-4)

Bill Tennant (Willyten10@aol.com or 282-0590). Let’s take the train to Washington DC and take a walk around the Mall. We’ll visit all the monuments and walk past the White House in case you want to pay your respects. Pack a lunch, and we will walk over to the Jefferson Memorial for a picnic on the Memorial’s steps. After lunch we’ll hit all the monuments on the Mall, loop around the White House and return to Union Station for a ride home after a full day of sightseeing. Round trip train fare is $58 if you book at least 14 days in advance or $76 thereafter until the date of departure. I am taking Train #84 Northeast Regional which leaves at 8:18 and arrives in Union Station, DC at 10:39. At the end of the day, I am planning to eat something light at the Union Station food court in DC before returning to Richmond, so I am returning on Train #93 Northeast Regional at 5:50, and it arrives in Richmond at 8:07. You may want to take an earlier or later train depending on your dinner plans. NOTE THAT THIS TRAIN DEPARTS AND RETURNS TO THE AMTRAK STATION AT STAPLES MILL, NOT THE MAIN STREET STATION.

No need to contact me before the hike unless you have questions or just want to let me know you are planning to attend. No limit on the size of the group. DC is big enough for all of us. I’ll go rain or shine (I’ll head for the museums if the weather is really bad). Just look for me at the train station on the 14th. If you don’t see me in the station, just head for the last car where we can all ride up together. We’ll count heads and coordinate the walk on the way up to DC.
