December 10 (Sunday) - Off Trail Hike N. of Swift Creek Lake- Pocahontas State Park - Chesterfield (C/2)

  • 10 Dec 2017
  • Pocahontas State Park

Jeff Samuels (jefflsamuels@yahoo.com or 536-2671). A 6+/- mile challenging off-trail hike north of Swift Creek Lake in an area just recently set aside for hiking-only trail development. Meander through the forest and along the scenic shoreline. Experienced hikers only. Must be comfortable hiking sustained off-trail on very uneven and steep terrain, scrambling over downed trees and across exposed roots and rocks, crossing low-flow streams, etc. Some briers. This will be fun for those who like this type of adventure. Sorry, no convenient bailout options, so must be prepared to hike the entire distance. Bring water and snacks. Dress appropriately for hiking off-trail and for predicted weather conditions. Sturdy footwear (boots) recommended. Restrooms at start only. Park entrance is on Beach Road (Rt. 655) 4 miles west of Rt. 10 (Ironbridge Rd). Parking fee without park pass. Meet in the big parking lot near the pool/picnic area. Contact Jeff for questions and meeting time.
