April 22 (Wednesday) Virginia Historic Garden Week - Homes and Gardens Tours - Hermitage Road Historic District RVA
Ted McGarry (218-1238). Ted is a retired Richmond City Planner who grew up in the Northside neighborhood adjacent to the tour location. The Tour features an enclave of elegant country estates built around 1900 for Richmond’s wealthy and prominent families. My family was not one of them but I have some stories as I delivered newspapers to them. These stately homes in the Queen Anne and Tudor Revival architectural styles, located on spacious grounds, face a wide tree-lined boulevard, Hermitage Road. Tours at 4010,4015, 4017, 4102 and 4105. Two comfort stations on the tour. Not a part of my hike but included in the admission price, are tours of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, The Executive Mansion and Tuckahoe Plantation garden. Visit www.vagardenweek.org/main/tourdetails?id=257. Tickets are $40 pp in advance, $45 the day of the tour and benefit the Virginia Garden Club restorations. Optional lunch in the Bellevue area. Call for meeting place and time. I have my admission ticket.
